Announcing On Being Jewish Now!
In honor of the publication of our anthology On Being Jewish Now: Reflections from Authors and Advocates, we’ve created a platform for everyone — aside from the 75 contributors — to write essays on this topic.
Head to !!
In 500 to 1,000 words, please share what it means and how it feels to be Jewish now.
These were my guidelines to the contributors which I’ll reiterate here:
This is NOT supposed to be a political treatise. It is NOT supposed to be the op-ed column. It is NOT supposed to be threatening or aggressive. It's supposed to be as if you were going to coffee with a close friend you haven't seen in a while, sharing stories about what has happened. It should be a glimpse into tradition and culture and the JOY we all need to help us all get through what has happened. Or it could just be the stress of your son's bar mitzvah. Or the challah you've made and a recipe. Or the shabbat dinners you've hosted. Or a moving time at your kid's school. Or a time you were review-bombed and couldn't believe it and how that made you feel. Not the headline: the feelings behind the headline that only YOU can write.
We’ll publish essays that meet our editorial standards. All profits of On Being Jewish Now are going to Artists Against Antisemitism. Everyone involved has done so pro bono.
If you’re ready to submit, email the essay to submissionsOBJN@zibbymedia.com.
Requirements:
500 to 1,000 words
Original essay
Include the text in the body of the email. Do not attach a document.
Include your name and a 2-3 line bio. Include website/social link if you want.
If you are on Substack, include your publication link and username so I can find you. Specify if you want it to be a collab post with your Substack as well. We can try that, too.
To get you thinking, here is our discussion guide.
Thanks, everyone.
Zibby, thank you so much for opening up this space for anyone to contribute. I am going to get to work on my submission! There is no shortage of voices and the more we put out there, the better! I cannot wait to read all the essays in the anthology and the new ones that get posted here! Wishing you and all the contributors a fabulous launch week!
Zibby, thank you for creating the space. Do you have a deadline for submissions? Will you be offering feedback on the submissions or not notification if you are accepted or declined?
